Copy a component w/1" holes to two additional components where I can individually change the hole diameter

The component (shown attached) has 1" holes. Want to copy this to two additional components where I can edit the sketch to change the hole from 1" to 3/8 and 1/4 respectively. I have tried New Paste but can't seem to get this to work. Once I have these I would like to draw all three onto one A3 page. The drawing will a 1:1 so I can print the three components in the drawing and use each as an individual template, each with different hole sizes and stick it onto raw material for drilling. Here too, I am struggling to put three components onto one drawing. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Please attach the component.  We cannot tell, from the screen capture, how you have created the holes or for that matter, how you have created the component.

I asked for your model but you did not send it so I created my own.  It is not small enough to fit on an A3 sheet but the process is the same with your model.  Take a look at the Screencast to see the process of creating the bar with 1/4" holes from the original and then placing it on the drawing with the other two bars.  I will attach the model.

Please remember to attach your model for quicker and more relative help.

Paste New works for you because you used Rule No. 1.

He has sketches in top level, and used Make Component from Body.

All obvious from the Browser.

Hi John, many thanks. Not sure what I did wrong in my New Paste (as you said) it should have worked. Sorry, I did not send my model. Will do so in the future. I missed your request to send my model as I had shut down my computer after I sent the message. I do have the commercial version. Many thanks once again for your prompt response/support.

Hi Dave. You are 100% correct, the reason my model did not work is because my sketches were on the top level (not within the component). I moved my sketches into the component then copy/new past and it worked. Question. How does one set the sketches to be part of the component (without having to manually move the sketches into the component? Many thanks

So just to clarify,

Had you placed the sketch/s in the first component, Paste New will take and copy those sketches into the new Components, allowing them to be edited - independent of other Component details.  Make Component from Body, broke the functionality you expected.

Edit due to new message -

Create Component - Fusion actives it and the sketches will be owned by the active component - in your case the top level is a component and it owns the sketches because by default it is the only Component in the file at the time.

John/Dave. Thanks for the help with this. Your Solution(s) worked. One additional question for the 1/4" hole component (and this time I included my model), I would like to decrease the distance between the holes and add additional holes to span the entire component length. How do I edit the rectangular features to change the 10 holes to 12? (only for this 1/4" hole component). Not sure why the rectangular pattern (which I used) icon does not show in the history?. Your help is greatly appreciated.

You will should try and learn how to use a Rectangular Pattern, it makes this job a snap.  The reason your Rectangular pattern does not show in the timeline is because you did it in the SKETCH.  Try to move out of sketches as soon as possible and use Feature modeling, including Rectangular Pattern.   The Model is attached.  By the way, see how easy it is when you attach your model.

Hi John, WOW, it truly is simple/easy. I will put more effort/practice into Patterns feature. Your explanation was excellent. Several great nuggets of knowledge imbedded in your response. Many thanks.

PS: I followed your recommendation and will always add in my model when posting. Makes it simple/easy.
