Hi,

In Fusion, go to your data panel in the left most column and click upload. Once your DWG file is uploaded into the correct project folder, just right-click the newly uploaded DWG file and click "Convert to Fusion Design". You can also upload the DWG in in your A360 account if you'd prefer too! Hopefully this clears up your confusion and if not message me with more questions! I'd be happy to answer them.

Regards,

James

When I right click on the drawing, there is no selection for Create Fusion Design.  If I double click on the .dwg after upload, it opens an IE window with a viewer.

Hi,

take a look at the new DWG terms

DWG must be converted within the cloud during upload.

But this is not possible with "personal license".

Thank you. That explains why I can't import them. I've had issues with the
fidelity converting to .step files so I started exporting .iges but found
that the solids are 'unstitched'. I just learned how to 'restitch' and that
seems to be working better. I'm an experienced AutoCAD user but new to
Fusion 360.

It seems Autodesk is shooting themselves in the feet making the personal version of Fusion inoperable in many ways.  I thought the reason for the "free trial" was to teach how to use the software and encourage adoption of it.  The "personal version" flat doesn't work according to that taught in most of the "teaching" videos.  I use Autocad at work, and wanted to learn Fusion at home using the personal version......to encourage "work" to invest in it.......so much for that idea.  It's just been one frustration after another, one road block after another.

Autodesk: You've done it again! -Changed some vital things without updating the knowledge pages and telling us users about it. I just spent 2 hours on various knowledge-pages, only getting old and incorrect workflow descriptions on how to import/convert dwg:s to Fusion360. I know I could do it before, since I have dwg:s that are readable and correct in my hub. Now it seems there is no way that I can import or upload or open my old dwg:s in Fusion, and no explanation pops up, the uploads are just not "complete"! Besides that, the files are converted differently on upload, depending on whether I do it from inside Fusion or in the web UI. Why? - No clue...

This is getting utterly frustrating, not knowing from time to another, what can and cannot be done in Fusion360.

I have in my account

I am trying to advise and support our clients. I feel now that keeping myself updated is almost impossible.

So could someone in Autodesk please give me a complete list of requirements for the files of different types and what can be done with them, both Autocad dwg and different entities in model space vs paper space, and Inventor dwg:s ditto, and limitations of license types and how to go about deciding which one to recommend to our customers that are transferring from desktop to cloud?

I would also appreciate an updated description/howto about importing and converting older cadfiles to fusion, since the upload button/dialogs no longer works as described.

And - please update Your knowledge pages....

Thanks in advance.

@gunnar_larsson  Just did a test and Upload worked just as it always has and open from the file menu also worked fine. Uploading through the online hub in a browser has always just uploaded files without conversion. As long as your customers have commercial licenses they should be able to open DWGs, no access to online translators in the personal version.

Not sure about paper space but Fusion only imports curves, surfaces and meshes, it does not import text, dimensions etc.

Yes, but the point is that this is the first time I´ve seen that info. And it´s not complete.

I have "dealer licenses" Why aren´t they on par with at least commercial?

How come then that i have old Inventor.dwg imports in my hub that are correct and readable, with model tree and editable title block. I cannot remember having done anything special to get it in there like that. Something is very different...

Don't know, all DWGs I've imported have always become 3d designs, never had any convert to drawings. @olivia.struckman  any idea what's changed?

@gunnar_larsson  Out of curiosity what does it say when you click on V1 to view the details? And do you still have the file you imported?
