you draw a line then highlight it then hit the X key, The X key is the sortcut key for turning a line into a construction line

Hi @Anonymous, this is a great question. Today, we only show 3D geometry in the Drawings workspace. However, the team has begun on a project just this week that will allow us to expose sketches in drawing views as well, so this feature is in progress.

Best,
Timera

Has this gone anywhere yet? I find this incredibly limiting for my work flow, and it seems like an incredibly basic part of the functionality of a 2D drawing package.

Hi Jon,

The feature to expose 3D sketches in Drawing workspace is in the final stages of development and is expected to release around Nov/Dec time frame.

did you try to see if a construction line would come through from the drawing environment,

How do you wont the construction line to be used

So I use the cad to do engineering drawings but sometimes you need to use construction lines to delineate orientation in space for install or other purposes.  In solid works, I can just add construction lines or they come through from the drawing view and I can enable them.  This allows me to have a 3d object but call out specific measurements to the person building it that I cant use with the regular dimension tool.

Sketch geometry does now show up in Drawing views. For any view which has a sketch normal to the plane, you'll notice the sketches available to turn "on" from the Browser. The sketch will show up in your drawing view as reference geometry. We also have OSNAP support for dimensions coming out later this month which should help with your dimensioning.

Thanks,

Timera

This should be a nice option. But what is going wrong?

  • After reading that I cannot Sketch in the drawing environment but need to do that in the part itself, I made a new sketch there.
  • It is sketch 3 and should be a vertical line, indicating where this part needs to be cut.
  • I saved the original design, refreshed the drawing, see sketch three in the design tree, but not on the screen.

Is there anything is this proces what I forgot?

@Anonymous

Make sure the sketch-geometry ist not of type "construction" - then it will be invisible in drawing view.

Regular sketch-geometry will be shown like this.

I see that the last time this subject was discussed was in June of 2018. Has support for entering lines on a drawing been implemented yet? I've tried using the June suggested method without success. Today date is 12/10/18.

Can you elaborate on what didn't work for you? Basic drawing tools are still on our roadmap, and we're working through our backlog as quickly as we can, but in the meantime using sketch geometry from the model workspace is still the best workaround... unless you own and use AutoCAD. You can always export a DWG from Fusion Drawings and open it up in AutoCAD to add your finishing touches in the meantime as well.

You can create a sketch in a 2d drawing now. Bit disappointing the sketches are not using the sketch solver from the design workspace.

Also in the first post, not sure what lines were added in the example that you could add with the geometry tools.

4 years from the last reply, still can't seem to figure out how to get a construction line (from the design space sketch) to show up in the drawing environment. Bummer
