constraining primitive solids to sketch objects during creation

What is the keystroke sequence to constrain a primitive (in the case a spiral body) onto an inferred point from a sketch (in this case the midpoint of the sketch line)  I can't get it to work.  What worse, the "center" of the spiral no longer exist after the spiral is created.  So moving it later is of no value.  Here's a video of how I'm trying to do it: http://autode.sk/25F5zpj

And the file itself: http://a360.co/1MMqjW2

Perhaps you can use a Joint Origin. You can use the Joint origin to add an assembly joint to position a spiral component relative to other components. See the below screencast for details.

I hope that helps.

Thats an interesting approach.  I was a long ways from being ready to define components.  But that might work.  Thanks.  Is there a solution for when they all need to be the parts of the same component?

There is a combine command in the Model > Modify drop down menu. You could use combine later in the timeline to "combine" bodies back into the same component? I'm not sure exactly what your going for, but if that doesn't work let us know. There's a way to get where you are going.

Thanks,

In  general, for the vast majority of users Fusion 360's Rule #1 applies. The first step in any design should be to create a component (and activate it). I put the "activate it" in paratheses because since a few updates back that activation automatic for new components.

Here's the documentation explaining the difference between bodies and Components in Fusion 360
