Connect a Spline and an Arc

I have a single multi-point spline and an arc created using the tangent feature.  The two do not form a closed profile even though the arc was created using tangents to the spline and the end points are coincident.  How does this not create a closed form profile?

I figured it out, stumbled on the issue/fix.

I selected the spline and then selected "move to sketch plane" and the profile was created as expected.

I'm not sure how I created the spline or arc off the sketch plane  Visually it appeared on plane.

if you use the "move" tool on sketch entities it can be pretty easy to bump part of it off the sketch plane without realizing it.
