Components not maintaining a separate timeline

Hi All,

I am trying to make use of the components concept in my designs so that I don't end up with one whopping huge timeline of mayhem and confusion. Though it seems I keep stuffing up the process somehow.

Here's what I have learnt from experts and have tried to replicate:

Upon opening a new design, the first thing I do is create a new component, because it seems that you cannot do this very well later..

I then make my new component "active" by clicking the radio button for my new component in the hierarchy on the left.

But every time I finish my component and want to go back to the overall design, all the operations in my component timeline have just ended up in the overall timeline (see pics below). I want those operations to only be visible when I make my component active - this was my whole reason for making the component in the first place - to keep my timelines modular and organised. Am I missing something here?

Thanks Community

Lindsay

Yes....The top component or the root will always show every operation of all components.

Way to get what you want....make a component active then in the timeline right click on the first action in the timeline then shift right click the last action in the timeline, this will select all actions that make up that component. Now right click on it and select Create Group. Then right click on the group and click rename and name it the same as the component it goes to. Now when you go to your root component you can collapse or expand that group keeping things nice and clean.

In addition to what @PhilProcarioJr said, you can also activate "Component Color Cycling" under the "Inspect" menu (or press Shift+N on your keyboard). That will assign a unique color to each component in your design, and in the timeline these colors will show up, so when you activate your root component you can still see which operations/features pertain to which component by looking at the color. The components themselves will also be colored in the workspace, making it easier to visualize the different components. Bodies within a component will have the same color.
