Components instance & mirroring

Quote from bodies and components "Components can be reused in a design. Copy and paste a component to create another instance of the component. All component instances update when a change is made to one instance. Component instances can be positioned independent of one another."

Is it possible to achieve the same thing when mirroring? Like if i draw a table legs as a component and then mirror it onto the 3 other corners of the table top, they act as 4 individual components. And not as instances linked together.

Thanks.

I think the easiest solution to generate an independent, mirrored component is to right click on the component and perform a Save Copy As. Next, edit this file so that it can be mirrored. Last, insert this component into the design.

Keep in mind that if you want to create additional independent copies of this component, you can use the Copy & Paste New command to do so.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Could you show a screenshot of one of the legs ?

There are possibly several ways to do what you want.

I just made the edits to one of the legs. Deleted the rest and the mirrored them again. Not the best workflow, but it did the trick. But didn't get to read @innovatenate suggestion before i did it this way 🙂

I gave you a kudos for posting a full screenshot as it cotains some inportant information.

The way you have solved the poblem now may work for you, however I'd like to point out that down the line may present a problem.

What can be seen in the model tree is that you actually have NOT mirrore the leg as a component, but you have mirrirored the leg body within the component. There is nothing inherently wrong with that, however it may present a challenge depending on what you want to do with these objects later.

1. If you want to reuse that same leg later and decide to save it as a single component with "save as" then that one component you have at the moment will contain all 4 legs.

2. If you want to create a drawing and print out a leg for example to create a template for the band saw or router you can also only do that with a component, which, again contains 4 bodies and not just one.

Yes you are completely right, that is not all want i want to achieve. Thank you for clarifying and pointing out the mess 😄 I will redo it. And do some rereading up on components and bodies.

Just to clarify, mirroring components ( not just bodies ) will be possible in the future. This is curntly a limitation in Fusion 360. It's easy to find a workaround though and not that much more work..
