component copy, kind of

Hi, all!

I have already designed sth like this in SketchUp (and printed it, too), but I want to use some convenient functions in F360 now, like rounding edges etc. The "whole" thing is a drawer with trays and inlets for the trays. The inlets will hold small parts, mainly electonics and small screws, nuts and washers. For this I have designed the tray case (and you guys already helped me with the hexagons for the bottom) and as a first approach a tray inlet with 2/10th of width and depth of the tray. I Then copied it to a 3x3, 5x5, 2x3, 2x5, 3x5, 3x2, 5x2 and 5x3 tray. As you can see that will be 9 copies where I just changed the width or depth of 'em.

Now my question: Is there a way to copy the "master" inlet 2x2 to a 2nd component, modify for example the width so that it becomes a 5x3 inlet, and then... modify the design of the "master" and to see that in the copied component, too?

For example modifying it to become

Like in the example above: I may copy and "paste" the 2x2 to another 2x2 component. If I change the width of either of them, all copies will get the new width. If I copy and "paste new" to a new component I can change the width of it and the "master" will be unchanged. But if I add a modification to the master it won't show in that copy. The copy should only modify itself by the last, kind of "local", modification and use the the rest of the design unchanged as "external".

It is a bit tedious if I have to modify all copies with the same operations after I decide to modify the "master" design. So hopefully there is another way sb could show me.

the easiest way will be to set it up as a configured model, but that is only available for paid/education subscribers?  are you on a paid licenses?

In the 1st paragraph there: "Later on, in the design, you realize you would like to modify the original component and have all the edits and additions, made to the original, propagate to "all" of the independent copies."

That is absolutely totally without any doubt the exact problem I was facing. 😉 Now I will take my time to have a look at the video for 2 or 3 times.
