Combine Command Question With Inserted Components

I am trying to use the combine command with and use the dark gray rectangular shape(top arrow) to cut a profile into the round cover beneath it (bottom arrow).  The cover was inserted into this drawing.

The combine command will not let me select the cover as a target body?

Is there a way to do this?

Richard

correct.  You can only make changes to the components and bodies in the active design.  Inserted components are read-only.  If you have a commercial license, you can do Edit In Place, which allows you to edit external components in the context of the higher-level design.  That should work in your case.  I think Combine is supported in EIP, but I haven't tried it myself.
