Cloud upload local files and Online Work with extremely slow upload

Curious newcomer to Fusion 360 here experimenting with options away from Solidworks.

So I'm getting to grips with the interface and project interface. I ofttimes have patchy or no internet and prefer to just work offline and sync at a later date. I have a few nuanced points such that it woudl be nice if someone could refute them and point me towards something i'm completley missing and provide alternative:

What Iv'e experienced are as follows:

1. Must not be in offline mode to access ANY project files with unless one has an internet connection and is connected via F360 (i.e. Must not be in offline mode).
2. Must not be in offline mode to add a local file to the project.
3. Must upload local file to "the cloud" before being able to import it into the current working file/model/assembly.
4. Must be 100% dependent on internet upload rate to even be able to import local file.
5. Unable work locally (with additional local files) and sync at a later date.
6. Adding or uploading local files, that are very large (10s-100s of MB), makes it virtually impossible to work efficiently as a lack of internet or spotty internet means you have to wait until files are "uploaded" before continuing ones work.

I have looked around and found posts like: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/ideastation-request-a-feature-or/cloud-and-online-work/idi-p/4652787 and completely agree with the sentiment

Have things changed recently?

Is anything planned to enable offline work to occur seamlessly and for users to upload at will?

If I have to be online to merely access project files, or if I have to be online to simply add a local file to the project, Fusion360 is effectively useless as a fast / decentralised prototyping tool. Everything else is wonderful - the modelling, timeline, hotkeys, interface etc.

Something existing on the cloud, or as a local project should have no bearing on the "syncing" or "dependencies" within the project and that reasoning does not make any sense at all - consider Git or other versioning systems.

Even if I want to utilise the cloud syncing benefits F360 has, I can't, because it means i'm grounded to locations with excellent internet availability!

Any comment on the above would be greatly appreciated!

The roadmap blog is the best place to keep an eye on what's planned for the future...

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-product-roadmap/bg-p/79

I can answer some of these...

1. Must not be in offline mode to access ANY project files with unless one has an internet connection and is connected via F360 (i.e. Must not be in offline mode).

See below link for working offline. Working offline gives you access to file cached locally in data panel.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How...

***Note There is a setting for the offline cache time period in the preferences that can impact how long cached files are available.

2. Must not be in offline mode to add a local file to the project.

Select New Design From File in the File menu while in offline mode. Limited support for file types:(IGES, SAT, SMT, STP, F3D)

3. Must upload local file to "the cloud" before being able to import it into the current working file/model/assembly.

See 2 above, limited support offline.

4. Must be 100% dependent on internet upload rate to even be able to import local file.

See 2

5. Unable work locally (with additional local files) and sync at a later date.

You can work offline for a period of up to two weeks with local files. After two weeks, you will need to sign in again.

6. Adding or uploading local files, that are very large (10s-100s of MB), makes it virtually impossible to work efficiently as a lack of internet or spotty internet means you have to wait until files are "uploaded" before continuing ones work.

The upload process takes place in a separate background process that should not impact the ability to use Fusion 360 and edit your files. With that said, an internet connection is listed in the System Requirements.

I hope this helps!

Thanks,

If you open a file with New Design From File you can use Copy\Paste New to get it into the current working design. You need to make the bodies into components then you can copy\paste components between designs.
