clicking on a pattern tool in sketch mode

Here is something that occasionally drives me crazy. How do I click on the pattern tool while sketching? If I double click inside the circle, the profile is selected. I am sure that there is a simple solution but I cannot figure it out 😞

Long left click - Select it from the menu, 

or hide the profiles - forget to restore profiles causes other problems.

Sketch patterns are not recommended, where modelling patterns can do it.

thanks. But long left click allows only to select profiles, not handles, it seems...

Mouse hover over the icon?

Select through and 

select all, are turned on?
