Classic problem I guess - The sketch geometry is overconstrained

Hi Guys,

This is my first contact with Fusion, so learning it and can't understand the logic behind the constrains.

I know that there is hundreds posts like this, but none of them helped me in anyway.

Can you please have a look on my drawing and tell me what could potentially cause the annoying error "The sketch geometry is overconstrained".

When I drag the blue lines the ful geometry is moving which means there is problem with some dimensions not defined but any dimension added right now cause this error to pop again 😞

As you see the geometry is slightly off the central point as I wanted it to be like this. If I start to drawing my shape from central point and add all the dimensions then all the lines are black and the geometry is fully constrained but then I'm not able to move it which is super annoying. Definitely lack of knowledge here so hope that someone will be able to explain what I'm doing wrong here. Basically any fully constrained shape that has black lines is not movable 😞

Thanks guys for your time and I'm sorry for creating another topic on this annoying for Pros (I guess) subject 🙂

Please attach the problem model.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Hi,

Why do you want the sketch to be "movable"?

The model sketch you attached is already fully constrained.  In my Environment, the sketch changes to white when full constrained.  The sketch also shows the fully constrained icon in the Browser.

John, yes this one is as I did it starting from the central point, the problem is that I have a few components to draw and always the second one that not stick to the central point have problem with blue lines. So for example if this one is now fully constrained then the other that I will draw below is not and even if all dims are correctly applied blue lines are still there and full constrains cannot be applied. Same story other way if I draw this H shape slightly off the central point it cannot be fully constrained. So, I'm definitely missing something here as this is not possible that I'm not able to create two separate components that are fully constrained...

Please see this example and see the component 1

Hi,

Use an example (screenshot, photo...) to show what the end result should be.
Then we can respond more specifically to your requirements.

You should create a sketch per component.  You also can constrain sketches using dimensions and constraints to the origin when the sketch is not near the origin.

Your geometry in your second component can be related to the sketch of the first, in this case with one horizontal constraint and one dimension.  I would suggest you use one sketch per component if you are beginning and use a workflow similar to my posted video.  Model is attached.

The error is correct, adding any other constraint / dimension will not change the profile shape., but

Your missing, constraints to the Origin.

Wont turn black without telling Fusion where your articles (when black) are - relative to the Origin.

That you want to move them later, come back (edit sketch) and edit the holding dimension/s.

Each component should be independent, until they are jointed.

Might help….

Oh, I got that now, thanks so much John, yes added two dimensions that creates relation to the first component and all is constrained now. OMG I was fighting with this so long... Thanks once again! 🤗

To be honest I did not expect this forum is so active thank you guys for your time!
