Circular Dependency Issues

Hi, i'm new to Autodesk but have been trying to use it for school.

I thought i had completed my design but realised when i imported to to another design it was too small. To rectify this i tried to enlarge it using the scale tool. However, the process could not be completed due to circular dependency in sketch 2 to sketch 5.

Any suggestions? not sure how to fix this and don't like the idea of starting again haha- Thank you help.png

Also i have tried to upload/share my work with you but my file name did not contain the correct characters and i couldn't work out how to add them in correctly.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting.  We are very interested in these kinds of problems.  We would like to take a look at your design.  You should be able to post the f3d file here.  If the exported file name contains some characters that the upload doesn't like, you can just rename the file on disk, and try again.  Or, follow another of the workflows here:  How-to-share-a-Fusion-360-design, and share a link to the design here.

thanks,

Jeff

Thanks, the link works fine.  We'll take a look at the design and try to figure out what the cycle is.  Most likely, it involves projected geometry.

@airol001.302,

Here is a screencast showing how to get rid of the cycle while we try to understand why this is happening.  As I suspected, the cycle involves projected sketch geometry.  Selecting some projected geometry in Sketch5 and using Break Link will break the cycle.  That will get you moving again, even though you've lost some associativity with the projections.

There are a couple of other feature warnings that you should probably fix, but are not essential, since they are just warnings.

follow-up.  We think we understand how the cycle was created in your model.  It exposed a bug that we are in the process of fixing.  If you have the "auto project edges on reference" preference turned on, and you are dragging a sketch line or point, this can cause geometry from later sketches to be projected into earlier sketches, which can create this kind of a cycle.  See this screencast for more information, if you are interested.  And, thank you for sharing your model - it helped us identify this bug in Fusion.
