Changing one parameter affects multiple components.

In the attached model, when I change the mantle depth parameter, it not only changes the mantle depth to the correct dimension, but offsets/changes the glass door position as well. See model and attached picture. Mantle depth should change but the glass door position should remain in place. Any insights into what I may be doing wrong is much appreciated. 

PS: The brickwork design is new to me and hence not optimal in terms of workflow/methodology used but I am trying to get a quick design up and running. Any pointers on design improvement in this area will be greatly appreciated. The idea is that I wanted the brickwork to be dynamic so that it can be adjusted and used in different designs (walls, rooflines etc.

Rather hard to debug without named sketches or joints.  Recommend reading Rule #1, then start fresh.

Yes, that is normal when a design has not been properly assembled.

That's what the joints in the Assemble menu are for.

You should never use the move tool in conjunction with a subsequent position capture feature to locate components.

Agree, I did a quick mock-up. Need to be more disciplined in design approach rules. I found the issue. It was simple. I backed up a few steps and repositioned the glass frame. All works now. Thanks

Hi Peter, thanks for the tip. I managed to solve the error by backing up a few places on the history timeline and then used the move tool to place the glass frame into the larger frame on the fireplace. All works correctly.

Move is almost always the wrong move (pun intended) as used by beginners.

I have not yet familiarized myself with joints. I will need to do so.

Re the quick mockup design using the move tool (although not the right choice for a professional design), did help me eliminate the "changing parameter" issue I faced and allowed me to complete the visual I was looking for, while adjusting and "playing" with the mantle parameters, till I found the mantle sizing I needed.
