Challenge converting mesh to body. Not sure what to do.

I attached below a F360 file containing the original mesh (called Focus Plate) and my steps to convert.  I am not finding the right method to close up the mesh and convert to body.  I try to repair, put into face groups, convert, but there are still "mesh messes".  I'm hoping for advice on how to proceed to make a good body from this mesh.  Thank you.

Your face groups need some manual clean-up work for this to work better, but even then it might not work.

For whatever reason showing colors for different face groups is not the default, but it can be enabled manually:

Then you can see that some of the the face group assignments don't make sense.

If that does not result in a better conversion the only alternative and perhaps generally the better approach is to re-design this with the native tools in Fusion 360.

Hi @happyday.mjohnson, I gave it a go file is attached. I did pretty much that same as you, but I did a rebuild - preserve sharp edges then generated face groups then reduced mesh only on the main flat surface and it did it. The threads and the middle whatever interfaces are not looking that good. I have to agree that remodeling may just be the best way to go.
