Capture design from FEA deformation results

I'm doing the headset project that must fit on customers head

I'v designed the form that fallows the shape of the 3d scanned head, and it fits perfectly.

Headset fits perfectly on the headHeadset fits perfectly on the head

 

But in order that headset holds and positions itself on the head, I must "deform" headset in pre-formed state, so when you put it on your head, it will form and fit on the head firmly. 

 

Since I know how end shape must look like, I use FEA to deform it in pre-formed state. Now I would like to use this deformed state from FEA results to create pre-formed geometry of the headset.

Hello @krunoslav_knezic,

 

at this current point in time, you cannot export deformed results from Fusion 360 Simulation. You could split the surfaces to force a vertex at key points, run the analysis, grab the displacement results using Inspect>Create Surface Probes. Then use these results as a base to change the shape of the original model. 

However, saying that you are already starting from the pre-formed state. If you could make a few versions of the model and run a few analysis, and I assume it is linear as you do not want plastic deformation with the use of the product, you could then interpolate the results in Excel etc. to find the solution you are looking for.

Thanks for the repply.

 

I already search and found out that Fuison can't export deformed state as separate geometry (although it could be possible because the same feature exists in shape optimization analysis).

 

Anyhow, I was also on the same track, using probes as finding out coordinate as specific points on geometry, and then re-create new shape based on this points.

But I was hoping for maybe other possible solution that I can't see.

Nope, I have final shape, that fits the head, and I need to find pre-formed shape. If I go other way around I would have to much iteration to find ideal shape for every specific individual, which will took to much time, and be to costly.

At this point I'm wiling to accept that my only option is to use information from probes on specific point to have coordinates where my main points should be in pre-formed version of geometry.

 

Now I need technique and workflow how to design such surface that will give me quickest and most robust way to create both geometries?

 

I have surface that follows the shape of the head, positioned points on the head, and curve that follows this projected points trough surface.

Surface and curves that defines geometry  of the headsetSurface and curves that defines geometry of the headsetHow can I create "construction" geometry that will pull and re-shape existing surface using coordinates from deformed state?

Or any other method that I can create new surface with x,y,z coordinates from deformed state?

 

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Hmm,

 

how to obtain deformed surface point coordinates data?

It seams that Point Probe shows original point coordinates before deformation.

And surface points shows only deformation value at this surface (without coordinates)

 

Is there any way you can get coordinates of the points on the deformed geometry?
