Cannot edit coil in my design

Hi,

I created a design (attached to this post). In this design I added a coil beneath other objects.
Now I wanted to edit that coil but I cannot. The parameters type, diameter, height, pitch, etc. (I specified when I created the coil) do not appear anymore in the 'EDIT FEATURE' dialog:

If I create a complete new Fusion file and add a coil I can edit it, without any problems.

What is wrong in my design please? How can I edit the coil now?

Thanks for any help!

Hi

In addition to the operation dialog box, parameters can also be edited in the parameters window.

True, but I downloaded and opened the design and it is very odd that the coil UI does not show the parameters.

This happens when a feature removes the face the coil was originally created on. When the coil is created it creates a hidden sketch and if the reference plane is lost you get this error.

See attached file for example. I first created the coil on the top of the box, then rolled the timeline back and extruded the second box across the top of the first, if you delete the second box all goes back to working correctly.

@kacper.suchomski: Thanks, will try that, But it's only a workaround.

@HughesTooling: But I did not remove the skettch or profile the coil is based on, it is the first item in the component's history:

CannotEditCoil_2.png
And in the open coil dialog, I even cannot select the profile (circle). Fusion does not let me to do so.

For some reason Fusion has lost the plane it was created on, I don't know why in your example. If you create a coil on an offset plane then delete the plane the coil will show an error straight away but in some circumstances the plane (can be a plane, face or profile in a sketch) the coil is based on can be lost and no error is shown. I don't know why they even show the profile option on the dialog because you've never been able to change the selection for the hidden sketch the primitive commands create. I'd be quite wary of selecting a sketch profile as the base for the primitives, they don't even snap to the geometry anyway.

This is a bug I reported years ago and applies to all the primitives in Fusion and another reason to avoid them. Unfortunately creating coils without the primitives is a bit of work but you do end up with a better fully parametric design that doesn't break in situations like this.

that is definitely a bug.  Thanks for tracking down the root cause, @HughesTooling !!  I created bug FUS-230363 for this issue.
