Can't snap to grid when hovering over a line

I'm trying to draw a rectangle inside another rectangle and I'm having trouble getting the lines to snap to the grid. The two rectanges do share a common edge. When my mouse is over an existing line, it wants to snap along that line, which is fine, but it doesn't snap to any grid points that are also on that line.  When I hover over an area that has no line, it snaps just fine to the grid. I've already reported this from a previous discussion (reference ID FUS-16239).

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/general-fusion-360-questions/any-way-to-snap-to-smart-guides-amp-the-g...

I will update the report with a link to this discussion, as well.

One thing to note is that the Control key (CTRL) will disable sketch constraint inference (auto-creation of sketch constraints) AND grid snapping. AT this time, the nearest constraint inference has a higher priority than grip snapping. This is working as designed for the moment. You should be able to work around this limitation by using sketch dimensions and/or constraints to position the sketch geometry or by using the other work-around mentioned in the previous post.

If you would like to see a specific solution to this implemented, let us know how you'd like to see it work by creating an IdeaStaiton request.

Here are some guidlines for creating an Ideastation Request.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Thanks.  I have another issue that is somewhat related, I think.

I have a rectangular sketch that I created on X-Y plane with z=0.  Then I used the move command to move the sketch to z=27".  Now I want to add geometry to this sketch, but everything is snapping to the z=0 plane.  I'd like to just add a line that will cut the sketch in half, but I can't.

Here's a llink to my model

The sketch I'm working on is named "Top Bars"

In Fusion 360, the 2D and 3D sketching work spaces are integrated into one sketch work space. With that said, there are some commands that work for 2D sketch entities, that do not work for 3D sketch entities (like the perpendicular constraint). We are working rapidly to expand this capability with every release.

In this case, the trim tool will work for 3D sketches and I suspect may solve the issue.

Check out the screencast below for more detail about 3D sketches.

Otherwise, you may consider creating an offset plane to sketch on.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

The 3D sketching setting worked, thanks.  I haven't played around with the offset plane stuff yet.  I still need to figure how that works too.

@SGoldthwaite, For your information, I checked this snap issue and added a fix for it (FUS-21912, might in January release), keep you updated. Thanks for sharing issue with us!
