Can't select edges with mouse window

I'm trying to draw a window around edges to select them, but it only selects faces.  I can select the edges by indivually clicking on them.

Here's a screencast: http://autode.sk/1N4vHxm

This is intentional.  It was done as a performance boost, because if you select a huge model with lots of faces and edges, it was taking a long time.  And there aren't that many commands that use multiple edges.  In those commands (fillet chamfer), you can window select edges from within the command.  Here's another thread where this is discussed:  cannot-window-select-multiple-edges

Hope this clears up the mystery.

Thanks for the explanation.  I was trying to create a selection set.

Thanks for the info on what you were trying to do.  It's very helpful.  To be honest, that's a use case that we hadn't actually considered.  We spent a lot of time trying to come up with cases where this could cause problems, but we overlooked this one.  Unfortunately, selection set is one command that only works with pre-selection.  Let us think about this, perhaps we can figure something out.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm trying to do the same.  Seemed to be the approach I needed.

A warning or info box saying you can't do that selection type (maybe with a don't show again checkbox), would have saved me a LOT of time.)  Or a warning before making a selection that is large enough to cause performance issues.  Personally, I'd rather walk away and get a cup of coffee than select these edges manually.

It doesn't seem like I can paint them either, is that expected behavior?

Dear all,

I have the same problem in sketch mode and with the offset functionality. And worse, I can select only one edge at a time. So for a large edge loop it is very complex.

I must add that I obtained those edges by projecting them from an other geometry.

Hi @manuel.yguelHRZX5.  The problem you are experiencing with sketch offset is a slightly different problem.  This is a problem with offset itself.  We are working on a fix for it even now.  Thanks for reporting this.
