Can't move surface sketch.

New to Fusion 360 (mostly experienced in 3ds Max, so this is obviously a different process :))...

Hitting an issue where

  1. I have created an initial sketch
  2. pulled/extruded it out 10mm,
  3. Added a new sketch to one of the surfaces
  4. Use the text tool to add some text
  5. Exploded the text to sketch points and lines
  6. Selected the text "sketch" and pull/extrude out another 10mm

Now... want to move the text sketch to a different location on the same surface.

  1. Edit the "text" sketch
  2. Drag to select the "text" sketch (lines and points)
  3. Right click on the selected sketch and choose "Move
  4. The move/rotate controls appear.

If I try and use the move controls to move the sketch, it doesn't move the sketch. I can't see any constraints, the sketch doesn't seem to be locked.

What am I missing here?

Hello @nolubez

After exploding the text, the lines, points and other curves generated are Fixed (Shown in green in the following image)

Fixed sketchFixed sketch

These fixed geometries cannot be moved by move command. To move them you will need to Select->Right Click->Unfix them and then use Move command to get the desired result.

Unfix the sketchUnfix the sketch

Move The SketchMove The Sketch

After the move, when you stop the sketch extrude should get automatically updated.

I hope it was useful.

Thank you,

Very useful and thank you SO much for the quick reply.

I had tried this (Fix/Unfix) as it was the only thing that seemed to make sense, so it looks like the first time you edit > select the sketch (green outline) and click Fix/Unfix it deselects and it is still outlined in green and "fixed". I need to do it a second time to actually get it to "unfix". Not sure why it's taking me 2 times to get it to work.

Anyway, thanks again for the great step-by-step!

Hello @nolubez

You are welcome! I will see what I can do regarding double Fix/Unfix behavior.
