Can't Move Sketch and body together.

I am trying to put a little more space between two bodies.   I can move the body of the part I want to move easily enough,

but the sketch that i used to create it stays in the original position.   How can i move everything together?

thanks

Hi there, here is my answer to a similar recent thread http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-and-documentation/sketch-not-updating-when-bodies-moved/m-p/576...

"Hey there, this is definitely an interesting subject with a lot of ways to go about it.  Besides creating the sketch and body in the desired location to begin with, I would say one of the most interesting ways to move everything, including sketches, while maintaining that location when editing a moved sketch, is the following.  First be sure that your sketch is in a component, either by creating a new component and activating it so a new sketch goes into it, or creating a new component after the sketch is created and then dragging the sketch into the new component, which is normally allowed and also brings all bodies created from the sketch into the new component as well.  Then when you want to move the body and sketch, do a Component Move, after which a snapshot button will appear in the upper right of the screen.  This places an update/marker of new component position into the timeline.

"Finally, to make this new position exist before the sketch was created in the timeline [note this is only if you would like the sketch to remain in same place when entering/editing it, which is actually not usually necessary...also note can edit many things including dimensions and point locations without actually entering a sketch], you need to first insure the component creation event (a white cube) exists before the sketch creation event in the timeline.  If not drag it back in time sufficiently.  Then you can drag the snapshot event to before the sketch as well, and presto!  Note that it's possible to also Combine components together, so fillets etc. can be performed between them.

Aaaaannd another one 😉

When designing mechanical components please follow the process below:

1. Right Click on the root of the browser and select " New component"

2. Activate that new and empty component by clicking on the radio button right next to the component name in the browser or by right clicking on the component and selecting "Activate"

Then you can create your sketches for that component and create the body for that component. The above process ensures that all entities that belong to that component are create in that component and also the timeline for that component is recorded.

When done with a component, either activate another for editing or create a new one as shown above.

If you want to move a component then you can just drag it around in the viewport. Don't highlight, right-click and select "move". This is unlikely to do what you want as it moves the body within the component. That is basically what's happening at the moment and is usually not desired unless you know precisely what you are doing . If you want components to remain stationary and you don't want to be able to drake them around arbitrarily, then ground your main component and use the joints from the Assemble menu to join two or more components.

Hello jjurban55,

i created a new component and when I  try to drag a sketch into it F360 crashes.  Is that not allowed in this version?

thanks

Hmm, well that's not good!  Are you using Fusion 360 on Mac OS by any chance?

Thanks Tom.  Could you describe or possibly make a screencast (using the record button in upper right of screen) of what exactly you're doing that causes a crash from moving a sketch into a component?  I'm quite curious.

Thanks,

Jesse

Also of course if you can show how to reproduce the crash then the good folks at Autodesk can log the bug for a fix.

I do not see any CER with your email address. When you crash do you see the following form appear? Please fill them out.

If you can export (file menu > export > use .f3d type) the file and email to me that would also help. phil dot eichmiller at autodesk dot com.

Please fill these out when you see them:
