Can't export .stp anymore

Anonymous

After getting the big update I can no longer export a design.

Message reads "Local support is not supported right now for distributed designs."

That's a new one for me. I am on the trial period for a startup.

Also it used to say Ultimate for the version, now it doesn't. I looked in the about tab on the help drop down, it just says Fusion 360 now.

Thanks

Kevin

You can use the Break Link command to remove the external references from the design (distributed design). When this is done, the "chain" icons will not be next to any of the components in the model browser.

Another option is to export from the dashboard (or the item details windows). Look for the export command in the Tools menu.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

I went ahead and logged incident ID FUS-18272 to track this issue, moving forward. I, or someone else, may respond with an update when one is available.

Thanks!

Sorry for the late repsonse. I understand, now, that distributed designs is something I've imported, I don't understand why when I attach that body to one I've created in f360 that I can't export that. Even creating a component from the two bodies doesn't allow me to export the new assembly/component. It seems that when the source of a body is outside of f360 that it cannot be exported, even when assembled with something created in f360?

I'm not finding the break link command in my drop down, and trying to export from the dashboard didn't work either.

The imported .stp is actually a body that I created in f360 but it got a little buggy when I was trying to make an assembly/joint with a second body.  Freezing and generally not behaving well. So I exported it as an .stp and imported it back in and the assembly process went MUCH better. Now it won't export.

Just trying to get some parts made.

I do appreciate the quickness of the response and the fact that this is pretty cool software. I'm actually pretty happy with it, just gotta figure out the quirks.

Distributed design is discussed in better detail in the below blog post.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-product-roadmap/distributed-design-in-fusion-360/ba-p/55495...

The easy explanation is that distributed design introduces design referencing, the ability for one design to update based upon another, separate design. Now when you use the "Insert into Current Design" command, to insert one design into another:

You'll note that there is a chain icon next to the item's name in the browser:

Distributed Design XREF icon in browser.png

When this is present, the local translators are disabled (currently). For now, there are two work-around solutions:

  • Use the Break Link command to break any of the cross-design references located in the design. All of the "chain" icons have to be removed from the model browser. After doing this, you will find that the Export command works. Note that after exporting the file, you can use Undo (CTRL + Z or Command + Z) to undo the Break Link command.
  • Use the Autodesk 360 cloud translator instead of the local translator. This will require you to open the Project Dashboard in the web browser Dashboard Icon.PNG

Open Item Details.png

Tools Export.png

I should note that it looks like a fix is coming for this issue in the next update. This fix will address the ability to use the local translators with one exception. The archive file format *.F3D, will not support X-REF's and will be disabled for distributed designs.

I hope this helps to clarify some quirks. Let me know if anything is unclear or if you have any questions.

Thanks,
