Can't edit sketch just created

I sketched a profil - extruded it and then called up another sketch on the side created by the extrusion.  I used P to project the edges of the extrusion and then... I've a sketch showing in the sketch folder - great.  Now I want to draw some holes in the sketch but when I click on it there's no sketch function.

You should be able to just right click on the sketch and choose "edit sketch" to take you back to editing that sketch.  The only case where edit is not available would be if a) you are already editing another sketch, or b) that sketch is owned by a Base Feature.  If you share your design here, we can take a look at it and maybe record a video.

Also, your video shows a timeline group in it, so it's a bit hard to tell what is inside of that group.

then, most likely it is owned by a base feature (or Form feature, or Mesh feature).  If you share the model, we can tell pretty quickly.

If that is the case, it points out a very confusing thing here:  Fusion does not visually distinguish base feature sketches from "regular" sketches.

Thanks, but this model is a bit different than the one in the video.  The video shows sketch7 and also a timeline:

While this model does not seem to have a sketch7, does not have history enabled, and sketch6 (which seems close to what you show for sketch7) does seem to be editable:

The model you've opened is the exact one I've the problem with.  I turned on history to try and manage more effective mirroring.

And while you can access the edit sketch option  I cannot.  Is there some other data you need to analyse this?

the video in this thread shows being unable to edit sketch7.  But, the design linked to here does not have sktech7.  Can you try to download this version, and see if you can edit sketch6 in this version?  Are you saying that you cannot edit sketch6 in this design?

I don't understand what's happening here.  I've done nothing to the model or sketch since sending you a link to it.

Here's another vid

later - You're probably done for the day so I'll set aside the model and wait on your reply tomorrow.

Thanks

From reading your post it would seem you are an avid fan of direct modeling.  I believe that you have take this model and activated the timeline and this has given you an issue on how to get back to the component sketch.  Follow the Screencast and you can edit Sketch 7.  I am doing this on the last model link in your forum post, if you have change things the process may be different.

Many users tried to solve your problem, if nothing works there is thing you can check ie., Enabling all selection filters.

I have faced this issue many times. When this happens I do reinstall fusion but don't do that.

You'll find selectionpallet at the end of solid modelling.

In selection filters make sure that you check everything.

Hope that helps...

@smallfavor - I also don't understand what happened there...  I swear, the version I downloaded (three times!) was direct modeling, and had no sketch7, so I tried one more time, after I saw that @jhackney1972 was able to get the right version, and lo and behold, the fourth time was a charm and I got the right version.  Again, no idea how that happened.  Anyway, John's answer is correct, and what I alluded to at the beginning - that sketch is owned by a base feature, and is what I referred to as the confusing part of this - you cannot tell that from looking at the sketch - it looks like all the others.

@jeff_strater -another one to add to the "discover-ability list" for the UI folks. selecting an element from that sketch, or selecting it in the browser, really should highlight the base feature in the timeline.

So one cannot go into an out of history mode without causing complications.  I've just returned this morning to a box full of email!  I want to thank everyone for the help.  I'm wondering if I now turn history off I'll be able to edit the sketch...

Good morning John!

Thanks much for your clear and succinct direction.  Coming from Rhino, I've always been in a direct modeling mindset and the timeline has caused me more grief than its worth so far.  I'll have to adapt eventually but when I want to get things done I go with my old ways.

@Ajay_Kumar_Reddy - Thanks for this suggestion. This is exactly the issue I was dealing with. Simply changing selection filters to "select all" solved the problem.
