Can't do align operation

I'm trying to do an align operation.

I start by selected the center of the bottom of a vertical aluminum extrusion.

I then select the desired destination, which is the center of the flat top of another object. 

Having selected that destination the align dialog is ready for me to click the OK  button.

But after I click the OK button the dialog disappears (as expected) but nothing happens. The selected object
doesn't change position, it NOT aligned as requested. There is also no error message or anything

to indicate why it didn't move. 

Now, you can see that the body I want to move/align is a sub-object of the component that I want to move.
Is that the problem? What do I have to do to make the desired alignment?

likely this is because the components cannot move.  I see that "shuttle vertical extrusion" is grounded (the little anchor icon):

I cannot tell whether the second component is also grounded, but likely that is the case.

Share the model here and someone can take a look at it.

THANK YOU! I "ungrounded" the extrusion and now the align works.
I had never done anything to explicitly ground the extrusion.
Can you tell me what it is that IM-plicitly results in something being grounded?
Or what I might have done that resulted in it being implicitly grounded?

By the way, when I posted this issue I had selected to be informed of any replies, but

in fact I never received any email notice. It was just me bringing up my post again

and finding that you had replied. I'm glad I did that because you solved the issue for me.
But it seems like there may be something wrong with the notification function.

Since the ground-to-parent function was introduced, the first new components are automatically grounded the parent. I believe that is the default. However, you can change that behavior in the preferences.

As it pertains to notifications, when I worked mostly on a Mac I had inadvertently moved some forum notifications to the Junk folder in mac mail. New notifications ended up in that folder and I did not see them until I inspected that folder and moved the messages back to the normal inbox. Obviously that works differently on Windows computers, but in general it is always worth checking ones spam filter.
