Can't delete component because it's referenced in a previous read only version of an assembly.  Is there any way to fix this?

As I mentioned, the reference to the component is in a previously saved read only version, it can't be removed because the file in which it's referenced is read only, a save would only generate another version leaving it unchanged and still making reference to the component I want to delete.

Is the component link to the original component, if it is it will have the chain link like the pick has, if it has this right click on it and select break link.

Other than that can you post the file

Let me rephrase.

I have a project ( Project X ) containing two components ( A and B ) , I saved the project, It became ( Version 1 ) of ( Project X )

I deleted ( component A ) from the project, keeping only component B, then saved. It became ( Version 2 ) of ( Project X )

I now can't delete the original ( component A ) from storage because it's still referenced in the read only ( version 1 ) of ( Project X )

Hope that's clearer

It's been clear all along.

This happens sometime if there is a references back to a original file, there are 4 ways to try to get rid of it from the data panel or model, delete, remove, breaklink then do the delete or remove and delete it directly in the data panel.

Then there is this go to your A360 folder in the cloud find the file there and try deleting it there.

If it wont delete with any of the steps above, and your are 100% sure there is only the original and the deleted one, do a save as on the file give it a new name then delete the file with the copy then delete the original file.

If this fails there is a references somewhere else.

Success!

Doing a save as of the latest version of the project not containing a reference, then deleting the original project then allowed me to delete the unwanted component.

Thanks for your help!!

That's good, some people don't like being bombarded with all the options in one go, for some like you it is the correct way to go, it's a hard thing to pick.

One last thing you're meant to use remove not delete when a component is not needed
