Can I create spline rails between sketches?

I'd like to create a complex lofted surface and how I visualise I'd be able to do it is create a kind of spline cage. I'm pretty sure this would work but I can't work out how to actually create the rails between the two profiles? Since you can only create splines on a plane, as far as I know, how would I connect my rails to the profiles points?

I've created the two main profiles on two differently elevated planes. I now need to create the 3 rails as show in the image. Could some tell me how I would go about doing this? Is it possible? I've attached some images to explain and the scene file.

Any help much appreciated.

You will be wanting to create a 3D Sketch.  If you have not used Fusion 360 very long, this normally in not an area you will want to use as it can be very confusing.  I will be demonstrating the method on three curved splines as your center wavy one is a little out of the question for demo, you can do as you want later on.  You need controlling points to make your splines behave, if you sketch them freely, you lofted surface will be out of control.  Model as I recorded it is attached.  Please do not forget to turn off 3D Sketch when finished, it will be your undoing in normal modeling work.

It would probably help if you can explain what you want to model. Yes, you can make these rails, but it might not be a good technique depending on what geometry you want to end up with.

@jhackney1972Thank you so much for this. It's exactly what I want to be able to do. I have another query which is relating to this after following your steps. Rather than make a new thread I thought I'd ask it here, I've attached a new scene. In it I've created a similar spline setup. However for some reason I can no longer 'edit' the spline curves shapes? The handles appear when I edit the sketch and click on the lines but nothing happens when try and move them? Do you know what it is that I've done that could be causing this? Looking back at my other scene, the same issue applies there too.

@TrippyLightingI have a model I'd like to create but I'm just exploring concepts around it which would help me get to grips with creation in Fusion 360. Coming from a polygon background, surface modeling seems to offer the flexibility I'm looking for so I'm just exploring it's implementation in Fusion 360.

Hi,

In this way you could edit a 3D spline.

However, as long as you refuse to specify a particular target, no one can give concrete indications about the usefulness of this action either.

@g-andresen That's great, thanks a lot! I wasn't seeing the need to select each handle's end point individually and perform a move function on them. Previously they were editable by simply selecting them. Thanks so much! This is extremely useful now as I can make adjustments.
