Can a selection set be moved as a single unit?

So I create a selection set consisting of a couple sketches and a component but I can not seem to be able to move it while it's all highlighted. I have tried selecting move while hovering over the selection set tab or while it's highlighted on the work field but each time when the move window pops up it unselects everything.

I've also tried to select using the free form selection method to highlight everything I want moved but again doesn't seem to keep it highlighted or doesnt allow the use of the freeform selection feature once the move window pops up.

This comes about since I'm building and planning at the same time and as the prototype form takes shape I realize I need or want things in a different location etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi @as12andrew

unfortunately it can't be since the Move command filters entities according its type:

thanks Josef

is that a feature that may be added. It seeks like it would be really handy to move things as a group and retain relationships within that group. Or is there a different work flow to moving several entities and keeping their spatial relationships?

If the entities all live inside one component then you could just move the component. A component is designed to be a container for sketches, bodies, etc. It sounds like you want the properties of a component by your description, a group of objects that need to move together sounds like a component.

There is a command to create new components, on the Assemble menu called New Component.

The best workflow is to first create a new component, make it active (which means inputs go to it only) and then do your sketches and bodies or even subcomponents inside of it. The group of related objects will then be movable as one unit if you move the component.

I'm attaching a white paper from an AU class about design methodology you might find helpful. It explains how and why you do things like this to organize your model. Here is a link to the video for that class.

Thanks and let us know if you have more questions.

Yes, it could be achieved by creating everything in a component which then could be moved and everything in it as well:
