Bug with conic curve and constraints

Hi there

Just woundering if this is a known issue?

I see similar reports way back in the past: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/conic-constructions-exact-equations-finding-... and not sure if this was reported correctly before.

Here is a video, that would demonstrate it:

In different design when I selected an end of a line (which were partially constrain on it's own) and my curve, it didn't even allow me to select any of the constraints (like coincident):

Tangent is progress.
Does it now mirror correctly? And is Rho available as a parameter?

Hi @Phil.E , I wish to be able to enforce coincidence between the endpoints of lines and the entirety of the conic curve, not just at the ends.  It's analagous to being able to enforce that the endpoint of a line is coincident with the edge of a circle.

My attempted workaround was to replace the conic curve with an N-point spline, where I used the conic curve as a template to accurately draw the spline curve.  This might have been fine in theory, but it consistently crashes Fusion 360 within a few minutes.  I had to give up on that approach.  I'm attaching an image illustrating the idea, though.

The only option I have left is to eyeball it, but as soon as I need to change a parameter, all my dimensions will change and it's going to fall apart.

Thanks for the details, I've added the feedback to an improvement ticket.

@tlmassey I can't find any crash reports from you. Could you please provide an example design of this for testing? I'd like to reproduce the crash and log a bug report about it.

@Phil.E I have 5 log files from the series of crashes on Jan 15.  How may I best send them to you directly?

Logs pulled from:
C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<AlphaNumericString>\logs

The logs you refer to are Fusion application logs. I was referring to crash reports.

Alternately, if you can share a design that crashes Fusion please let me know.

Hi @Phil.E, I emailed you the project file, some additional context, and clarifications on the crashes (actually, hangs). Sorry if I broke forum protocol, but email seemed like the best option to send files that I didn't want to post publicly.  Hope it helps in sorting this out.

I haven't gotten your email. Did you send it to phil dot eichmiller at autodesk dot com?

I believe this is related: I'm trying to locate/define the focal point of a parabola.
I'm doing this geometrically, by drawing equal length lines from the focal point to the parabola to the directrix.

However, after placing the lines, I cannot apply the equal constraint to them (fails to solve).

If I change the order of operations, I can get the equal constraint to work, but any dimensioning will fail as being over constrained.

I also cannot apply a coincident constraint to the curve after the fact. Only by creating points directly on the curve can they be constrained to it.

If I ignore these problems and build up more features, lines will randomly switch between constrained and unconstrained as I work. It will also rapidly slow down to a crawl.

Thanks for posting files, but since I'm a newb with parabolic designs I have no idea what is expected here. Can you post a video or image, or a list of steps to take, to produce the unwanted effect. Also let me know what the intended effect is. Thanks in advance.

I just tested this, seems to be working fine now. Not sure when they fixed it. Have you tried it lately?
