Bug: Software Says Dimension Will Over Constrain The Sketch When It Will Not

Is this the right place for this? I googled for a few minutes but could not find a better place.

This would not let me set a dimension for a circle, even though it could obviously still change and was not fully contrained.

Hi dammitcotezee,

Thanks for letting us know the issue, and thanks for the video which was very helpful to reproduce it! It's related to the tech preview of sketch fully-constrained checking.

I can reproduce the issue in the release build, and I just tested it in a development build. It’s fixed, so the fix should be included in the next major update if everything runs smoothly.

Hi,

I'm having the same issue with an ellipse. When will the update that will fix this be made available? Are there any temporary fix for it in the meantime?

Hi catot,

The solver related issue like this will highly depend on how the sketch objects were constrained/dimensioned, so it’s hard to know if the update will fix your problem without seeing the model.

Could you share us the model so we can have a close look at it? You may turn off the tech preview of sketch fully-constrained checking from the Preference setting and see if it’s relevant.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Please see attached model. In it, there is a single sketch containing an ellipse, and 4 projected edges. It has two dimensions in it, now try to add the two remaining dimensions from the ellipse end-points to the two other projected edges of the box. Neither will be accepted, even though it's obvious there are no geometric constraints or dimensions that should conflict with these dimensions. The ellipse can be freely be dragged to desired position, but not dimensioned the way I want it to be (at a given distance from the projected edges).

Also, I don't have any tech preview activated in my preferences.

Hi catot,

Thanks for sharing the model. It sounds a different issue. I will check it and report back my findings.

Thanks,

Hi catot,

I have confirmed the issue you reported is not related to the tech preview. I can reproduce it in the internal development build and has forwarded it to the team for a fix. (The ID is FUS-24320). Hope it can be fixed soon.

Thanks again for providing the details.
