Best 3D format to import?

Which file format(s) are best for importing into Fusion 360? I may have someone else begin a design for me (in another program) and send me the 3D files, which I would then import into 360 to complete.

Do any certain formats (STL, STP, etc) work better than others? Thanks for any help you can offer.

STP works quite well, any of the formats that use NURBS surfaces will give you surfaces you can work with in Fusion. You probably want to stay away from STL and the other mesh formats.

I'd ad to the previous poster that it depends on what software the design in created in. A lot of Consumer product designs start in a SUbdivision Surface modeler such as MoDo, Blender 3DS max etc.

In that case the control cage for the subdiv mesh can be exported as a .obj file and the imported into Fusion and converted into a T-Spline.
