I am wanting to create a simple dado pattern cut into  rectangular board....a component / body ---- not sure ....

I have a component I created and then drew sketches on top of that.  I first tried extracting the dado shape but it wouldn't let me repeat that pattern.  So I "ctrl-Zed" that and drew the rectangle dado sketch ontop of the rectangular board and the rectangular pattern worked...

I have been watching a number of beginner fusion videos but am growing frustrated because If I don't do exactly what is in that video then it won't work because Im obviously doing something I'm unaware of....

Another example....  when drawing a sketch ontop of the board it sometimes would end up drawing on the wrong side even though I clicked on what I thought was the top side I was viewing....

I'm trying to copy the component I have drawn so far, but it won't let me copy it.  I've tried drawing a selection around it and then copy but it will not allow any paste.  Additionally the "M" move/copy tool will not allow the create a copy button...

I think I need to find a course that fully explains everything that is going on and explains how things won't work if you do something slightly different.

I've also created construction lines as a guide to help me decide where to create sketch placements.  I also found that at times certain construction lines would disappear when I would edit the sketch while others would remain....

I will include my sketch and if someone can help me copy and paste it so I have two shelves,  and tell me what I am missing and give some guidance and direction for further self learning that would be great.

Cheers

C

I have had a look at your file,

Copy Component -  Is,

Right click on the Component name in the Browser.  Select Copy.  Is put onto the Clipboard.

Then Select the top name of the file entry in the Browser and Right Click, in that menu is Paste, and Paste New.

Paste means that the two components will always be identical, change either and both will update.

Paste New makes the second component independant, and changes from now on will be independant.

You didn't tell me where to put the copy, see if you can get it now.

Late in the timeline you worked out, you can select multiples for extrude, so you can clean up the early timeline.

Name Your sketches so you can tell us which ones are the drama.

Might help....

thanks that helped.  Created a new component, right clicked on the original component - copied, than pasted new into the new component.  Not sure if I should have just pasted into the same component but so far Im making some progress.
