Beginner trouble with deleting half of a mesh

Hello,

I am trying to cut a portion of a mesh away and delete it. After it is gone a simple flat surface needs to be applied.

I thought doing a plane cut would work but it will not allow me to cut up to the point I want. It stops 5mm away from where I need it to be. So I thought maybe doing a separate would work and then deleting the part I didnt want piece by piece. That doesnt work because when I go to select a certain face it selects a totally different face on the part I want to keep.

I thought maybe I could make it a BREP and then create a box over the part I dont want to keep and then delete it but I cant seem to do that either. Anyone provide some assistance?

Here is one example how to do it:

But to be honest, I would mostly choose Autodesk Meshmixer for such tasks.

Thank you for both links. I ended up downloading the other porgram you linked and played with it for a bit. I got accomplished what i wanted there were still some issues with it.

I want to learn fusion though so i am gonna end up going back and doing it in fusion.

In the end i found out that the model i was working with was the wrong dimensions for what i was needing so used it as a starting point and built my own in fusion.

Its printing now which is a neat feeling to have designed something and have it some to life. Thank you again for your help.

I'm a hobbyist. Designing things in Fusion 360 is fun. But starting with a STL file is IMHO not the best starting point. So go and design your own parts. IMHO that's the strong part of Fusion 360.

Can you upload your STL or provide a link to it. I'm just curious what it is and how hard it is to recreate.

Yes i can post it when i get home. So i was trying to make something that would hold my safety razor, bowl and brush i couldnt find anything on thingiverse that fit what i wanted but there was something close.

In the end I created my own based on measurements of my razor and brush bowl sizes here is a picture of it printer out

That's great! And projects like this are great to start with. You have to formulate your design, play with measurements and clearances and the design has some tweaks. Well done.
