Basic alignment of sketch objects

My problem is that I cant figure out how to align an object to a common point. everything is quite precise to .001 having to break out of workflow to measure then calculating the mid point then go into move and key in the translate values is wearing very thin with me.

Not to mention I would expect there to be an X/Y/Z value tree to be displayed when creating and or moving a point. And furthermore, being able to quickly be able to click on multiple points to see the measured values without jumping all around and breaking the workflow...its frustrating.

The loft by rail functionality requires perfect intersections to work properly...makes sense...but where is the tool that would ensure that when I create a sketch object that is something like snap to x?

Im not using sketch planes often, so I keep creating sketches and working in that context...which I suspect is not the proper way to do it since I intend to cnc the different parts individually.

Not to mention when I create a new sketch it groups objects from different sketches.

@Anonymous - I think you can do everything you want to do.  Are you willing to share your in-progress model, and describe in some detail what you need to do with it, especially the alignment part?

Hi Ron,

Meanwhile 2 threads with almost identical content are running here.
Several people have asked you to upload a file. But you didn't do that just as you didn't react (appropriately) to advice and questions.
You don't reveal anything and obviously expect us to guess your situation.
For me this is disrespectful.

I understand. I’m at work. I don’t have a specific project..I have been messing around trying “to get it”

my questions are conceptual questions at the moment based based off of tasks I have run up against several times.

i appreciate your response “duly noted”

i think i need to watch some videos and learn that way.

No no disrespect meant.

Everything you want can be done with constraints and dimensions. Take a look through the sketch section in the help.

Marking this answer as a solution says it all about the one who did it!

@rs_herhuth - I am not 100% sure of all the problems you are experiencing, but I can try to address two of them:

  • "I cant figure out how to align an object to a common point"
  • "The loft by rail functionality requires perfect intersections to work properly...makes sense...but where is the tool that would ensure that when I create a sketch object that is something like snap to x?"

For the first one, I am making some assumptions from your other threads, where I recommended you trace over the guitar drawings instead of using the SVG versions, so I interpret your question about centering relative to that project.  So, here is a screencast showing one way to center the outline of a guitar body to the sketch origin, using the "point to point" move feature.  This is useful outside of sketch, for moving bodies, components, etc.

second, for the loft question, see this post I did a while back about using loft with rail curves: introduction-to-loft-using-rail-curves-in-fusion.  The short answer is:  Project -> Intersect is the command that will create a point in your sketch that absolutely intersects with the rail curve.

Hope this gets you a bit further along your path!

Hello Jeff, thankyou for the example of the with the guitar. My issues would be:
1. What it you don't know the middle of an shape?

2. What if you have mutiple shapes?
3. How come there is no fuction where you select the two shapes and click "align center" "align left" etc ?

Like Adobe Illustrator where these kinds of basic functions is easily covered by some easy to find buttons.
