Base features

We started our model like we would in solidworks, with the major components each having their own assembly.  This worked fine as it allowed us to work on separate parts.

Last week I tried to break the links but I was getting an error stating that there were dependent constraints.  From what I can see this is a bit of a bug in Fusion that is being worked on.  All good.  One suggestion was to turn off Design Capture, which would let you break the links, then turn it back on.

Did this and it allowed me to break the links, but now all of my sketches have been re-associated into Base Features.  Now, to edit a sketch, I must find the base feature and edit it from there.  Thats a bit of a pain, but not too bad.  Is there any way to switch this back so that I can just right click on it in the browser to edit again?

The big problem is that when I edit the sketch, it doesn't update the parts that have reference sections in the sketch.

So basically our old work seems to be fairly bricked after turning design history on and off.  Is this right?  If so is my only option to revert a weeks work and do it again without breaking the links/find another way to break them?

Hi,

First thing to put in mind is to never turn off the History Capture, because you'll regret it down the road

Second, making a sketch in an environment can only be edited in that environment, for example, if you created a sketch in the sculpt environment, you won't be able to edit it in the model environment, same goes for the base feature

Regards

This is the post I was referencing:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/break-link-problems/m-p/6371884#M59626

The specific error is:

Error: The selected instance has some essential dependent instances. Break Link is currently not supported!

Everything was done in the model environment, design capture was only turned off to break the links and then turned back on again.  As a result of this, it associated the sketches into base features so they are no longer editable.  Does anyone familliar with Base Features know if they can be reverted or if I should just revert and lose the work?

Base features are editable and so are the sketches in them . However, once you turn off the timeline, sketches loose the associativity with the geometry created by them.

The only way now to edit the geometry in these base features is to use the direct modeling abilities of Fusion 360.

Thanks.  Should I open a separate thread then to figure out how to break the links?

That might not be a bad idea. The bug that was referenced in the thread you unfortunately took the advise from is already 9 Months old.

the comment in that thread from an AD employee was that these are already tracked bugs, so say they are a year old.

I might not be a bad idea to open another thread and remind them again!
