Badge that includes text with shadows

Hey!

Im trying to model a badge that has to look like the golf mk2 gti rear tailgate badge

My problem is, that the badge has some kind of 3d shadows, which i cant figure out how to model

I've tried to sweep a triangle around the text, but then i end up with the same size shadow all the way around. Which the golf gti logo doesnt have.

I hope some of you can help me out how to model this.

s-l300.jpg Here is the gti logo im trying to recreate with another font and textScreenshot_6.pngThis is how far i am at the moment. As you may see, i did a ofsset of the first B, where the shadow on the right and below the B is 4 mm and a offset to the left and above is 1.6 mm.

Hi,

try this way in Fusion:

shadowed textshadowed text

Create text > explode and  unfix > offset > delete offset dimension and symbols > move contour right and down

Thanks, that was way easier than the way i did it. But my problem is, that when i sweep the shadow around the letter, it looks like thisScreenshot_7.pngScreenshot_8.png

If it is possible to somehow fill a gap between curves, i think it would solve my problem. Then i could choose my "shadow" and my letter as the curves, and then it should automaticly fill in the gap. But i cant find such a function

Sorry can't make a screencast but try stepping through the timeline in the attached file. Basically I offset the text, created surfaces then moved the surfaces to give more of an offset at the bottom then loft.

Thank you! It worked

But now im struggeling with the "shadows" inside the letters, as they need to overlapScreenshot_9.png

As you see i tried to do it inside the "O", by doing an offset on the upper and left part of the circle, and another offset of the lower and right part of the circle.

But then i end up with a "flat spot inside the circle

Also i have no idea how to use this method inside the B, U and R

I'm going to try describing this as simply as possible.

1. Whichever plane you are using to sketch the letter forms... construct an offset plane such that it is below. The top plane will be the face of the letters, the bottom plane will be the base of the shadows. With me so far?

2. Draw all your letter form faces on the top plane.

3. Draw the base forms on the bottom plane. If you like, you can project in the letter faces from above, and offset them outwards the desired distances. Do it for the interior of letters with holes in them also.

4. LOFT from a letter's base outline up to it's face outline. Do it again for each interior hole to cut them out of the previous shape.

Try this with just one letter first, so you can have your "aha" moment. Then move on with the rest.

On the "B" and the "O" ex. i did and 2.8mm offset of the outside, and moved it 1.2 mm right and 1.2mm down, to get the right shadow size with 4 mm down and to the right, and 1.6 mm up and to the left. This is possible to do inside the "O", however on inside the B its not possible, as the offset then have to cross over itself.

I think im looking for something where i can make a line, with the angle/lenght i want of the "shadow", and make it follow along the form/curve of the letter. In this way i should be able to make the "shadows" overlap.
