Avoid selecting construction lines in sketch

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

When I create a construction line in a sketch how do I lock it so it doesnt become selectable. The reason I ask is because every time I sketch a line exactly on top of the construction line, then I can never select that line again as on mousing over the construction line is the first to get selected.

Since the purpose of construction lines is to layout elements, it seems illogical that I cannot select the elements(lines, sides of rectangles etc) that I have drawn directly over it. Screen Shot 2016-03-13 at 1.43.34 AM.png

Don't think there's anyway of selecting just normal curves and not construction. If you hold the mouse button down for a second or so you get a selection menu, you can then pick which curve you want.

Just noticed the order of selection is oldest first for lines drawn on top of one another but for points it's newest first. The newest first seems more useful as construction lines\points would be drawn first and normal lines last and you're more likely to want to select the newest lines.

Thank you! that worked. Also noticed what you said about the points which is why was wondering why it doesn't work the same way for lines.

This frustrating problem is still an issue well into 2022. It is so disruptive to workflows that it should be flagged as a bug. Difficult to understand why construction lines cannot be locked or hidden. I have to do most of my sketching outside of fusion 360 because of this. Please FIX IT!

fully agree, not just a bug, but a major design flaw...

Not a bug, just a self inflicted workflow problem,

why would you need overlapping lines of different type in the same sketch?

I don’t understand why this is a ‘self inflicted’ workflow issue. I’m creating a very basic template with some driven dimensions to locate arc centre points. The problem I am experiencing in Fusion 360 is not being able to filter construction lines when selecting the main sketch. This is not a problem outside Fusion 360 which is why I am having to create these templates or sketches In another application. The lack of a selection filter for construction lines is a glaring omission which is why I have highlighted it here.

Can't see what you are talking about.

Self inflicted - you did it.  Fusion does not create anything you don't ask for.

Not sure uploading a file is going to help.

The OP wants to select part of a sketch without selecting construction geometry. Fusion360 does not have a selection filter for construction geometry. Having your drawing on one sketch layer and your construction lines on another works well if your design is simple enough but there are often times when navigating through a lot of sketch layers is problematic.

So....

Feature request...  SELECTION FILTER for sketch construction lines please!!
