Autodesk Print Studio Printer Settings

I have been using Autodesk Print Studio for the past weeks and I have grown to love it even with my reprap using the printrbot profile as the profile. The toolpaths run fast and clean and are very well built. Though there are certain setting which I think should be opened to modification for printers. Maybe the option to modify these could be an advanced feature only available upon the users choice to see the "advanced settings!"

  • Change Filimant Size. most filaments have slighlty less than the predicted size.
  • Change Retraction Amounts. One set Value rarely works for every machine, even if they use the same extruder setup!
  • To implement the option for a grid of suport material used in many other slicers
  • Change Filament and Bed Tempertures. No two spool from differnt manufacturers or even simply differnt colors perfom best at differnt tempertures.

It would also be usefull to be able to build custom print and filament profiles for custom setups. That would bring more of the hobbiest community in touch with this advanced software!

Thanks!

I agree.  I looked at it and couldn't see any way to use it with my custom delta.

Well what I do is use the printrbot print profile for my mendel and I just change the start g-code with the temperatures every time I print something in repetier host. You could try using it with your normal host software, and use the ultimaker profile as your slicer!

Though this software will never be useful for the 3d printing community till one can add custom 3d printer profiles!

Thanks for this feedback.

We will looking into adding the settings you requested - we will discuss this with the development teams.

As far as the grid of supports option goes, that wasn't something we had considered till now. We will discuss this also with our product design teams.

We will update you when we know more.

You can edit the temperatures and a few other settings in %appdata%\Local\Autodesk\Print Studio\printDB\materials.json.  I'd make a copy of the file before making changes so you can revert it easily.

Unfortunately none of the printer profiles in printerTypes.json are for deltas, so the X and Y coordinates are in the corner instead of the middle of the bed.

Yes this is the feature that is keeping me from using print studio.  I have 3 diffrent printers none of which is supported at the moment.amd I would love to be able to add them.

It appears Print Studio has been updated.  Is there a way to create a profile for a delta printer?

We should also be able to change nozzle diameter! I have Ultimaker with 0.6mm nozzle.

You can edit the nozzle diameter in the file: %AppData%\Local\Autodesk\Print Studio\printDB\printerTypes.json

It's not a very nice way to have to do it, but it "should" work.

Thanks that worked easily enough.  There is also another setting in materials.json and profiles.json  to adjust filament dia and nozzle

Hi,

I would like to use Printer Studio with CraftBot printer, but it is not listed amongst default printers, so I am looking for an editor for printerTypes.json file, or an edited version of it.

(I know I can modify it by text editor, but there are some values that I do not know.)

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks,

Tamas

Can I ask what the equivalent file is called in the Mac version? (I do know how to look inside App packages)

/Library/AutodeskPrintManager/PrintManager/spark-print-data/printertypes.json

Thanks, that led me to a whole new set of files to explore, but hasn't yet found me the place that the steps/mm data is stored (my understanding is that .x3g files are in raw steps, so it is the slicer rather than the printer which needs to know the pulley ratios)

I will report back if I find the place to set the scale.

Sorry, that's the wrong path. You want the files in your user Library for editing:

~/Library/Application\ Support/com.autodesk.spark.printstudio/

But, since Spark has been abandoned there might not be much point.
