AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop model dwg import in Fusion360

Hi!

Is it possible to use ancient Mechanical Desktop models (enclosed) in Fusion360?

I tried, and import seems to be successfull: imported files (dwg) appeared in Data part of my project as files, but models are not visible in model space, just a part of hierarchical tree is visible, mainly constructional points, axes and planes I suppose, senselessly named.

Thx in Advance

The file format is unsupported (AutoCAD is okay, but Mechanical Desktop (MDT) is not). The modeling space is empty after importing the MDT files into Fusion 360. On one of the files, its seems to recognize that there are multiple components, but the 3D bodies are not imported. Is there any chance to export these files in a different file format like STEP or SAT?

Perhaps you could open them in AutoCAD Mechanical first? What application do you use currently to open the MDT files?

I note that you may be able to get them into an old version of Inventor (assuming you have access).

I hope that helps.

Thanks,

Currently, I have no installed neither AutoCAD nor MDT. 10 years ago, while I worked in ACAD and MDT, it was possible to open dwgs created in MDT in ACAD, but without hierarchical tree of features. Maybe it would be possibe even now, but, however - I have no so many those MDT created files, so it is not worthwhile to search for the way to present them in Fusion 360 if I will not be able to obtain hierarchical trees and ability to continue work on these models. I even don't know if MDT is compatible with Windows 7. I have no access to any version of Inventor, but have you got access to this old version? Would you try to convert my files in version compatible with Fusion 360? Thx in Advance

I will forward your information internally to see if there is someone who may be able to help. Have you tried contacting your reseller about this?

Thanks,

hi, I still use mechanical desktop 2009 on my w7 pro x64 pc that I built in 2016, runs fine.  so yes, mdt2009 can run on w7.  and my graphics card gtx 760, built 8 years after mdt2009, runs fine and fast.  my pc is worth a lot because it runs mdt2009 every day.

I have 10,000 mdt2009 drawings, and want to use fushion360.  tried fushion360 2020, bought a license, but did not translate anything.  anyone know if newer fushion 360 will translate?

I also have inventor 2009 and 2010 licenses, but inventor crashes, or does not translate well.

@vernExcitron

You will need to Export your geometry to STEP or ACIS (or AutoCAD solids).

I recommend you get that done in case your MDT becomes unusable for any reason.

All history will be lost.

Hi! To translate MDT files, you need Inventor 2018. Please take a look at the following article.

Many thanks!
