Assembly struggles

So frustrated, I have been wrestling for over an hour with a couple of simple I-Beams in order to create a stairs idea.

My usual workflow in Inv or SW is to bring the object or part into an assembly and then

center the origin planes with some coincident constraints or mates then snap the edges together or a midpoint on a plane or similar.

The F360 'Joint System' is a different frustrating animal all together. I can't seem to constrain the center of a solid object with the center of another solid object by using the planes. Yes, the Align function works temporarily but doesn't lock anything into its mating position.

In the attached picture, i have been trying to join the 2 I-beams together at the miter joint. Can someone please enlighten me

on what i am doing wrong? I love the modeling tools so far, but the assembly tools??

Thanks kindly - JD

Have you selected the ibeam face?  You get a range of snap points,

You select the face, edge, vertex, then snap to your desired point provided in the preview, Hold Control or Command key whilst in the selecting process,

You click to place the joint origin, then select the mating point on the other component,

Lot easier than you think,
