Assembly in assembly... shown wrong

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

i have an assembly (inside another assembly... or component inside component if you like) that looks like a few steps earlier. I saved the assembly, but the assembly it is inside of, does not ask for an update. If i open the assembly which is shown wrong from the other assembly, it opens to the correct state.

What could be wrong?

I have restarted the program etc... same problem.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Seriously dude, do you really expect us to understand what you just wrote? 🤣

Please create a screencast or at least attach some pictures or even better the .f3d file!

Cheers / Ben

Without images, videos, and/or a link to your model, this will be very hard to analyze. Can you please add some more data for us to digest?

Autodesk Screencast is a great tool for recording Fusion.

You could create a new file with the same components structure with just different body shapes and attach it. 😉

Then maybe these simple words will do?

Image a table with 5 components (1 plate, 4 legs)
In comes another component (a chair) with sub components.
They are made independently of each other (the linking sing appears).

The chair assembly has a leg point the wrong direction. This is corrected
before the chair was pulled into the table assembly. So it is an older
state of the chair assembly.
Yet the chair appears as that older version with the leg pointing in wrong
direction.
When the chair assembly is opened from within the table assembly, it looks
fine (most recent state, alle legs pointing correct direction)

Open the chair, click "capture position", save and close it.

Now update the table assembly.

it gets weirder and weirder...
I captured the position in the chair and saved > the yellow exclamation
mark appears in the table assembly, and i update > ... chair leg (also
imported into chair assembly) still points the wrong direction.

Open the table assembly, play the timeline. Do you see at any point that the chair leg is pointing the right direction and suddenly points the wrong direction?

When i imported the leg it pointed in the wrong direction. the next
operation is "move" to correct the position. There are no operations after
that.

Accepted solution

So in which file is does this move operation happen?

It sounds like you may have moved the body of the leg and not the component. But at this point, I'm losing track of which design we are talking about and which one has what inserted or moved.

Check every related design in this problem. Look for any "capture position" icons in the toolbar when you open them.

Check every move operation by editing it. Does the Move dialog show that the body is selected?

Basically, start at the beginning, and work your way to the end. What you are describing is a problem at the "end" that is caused by something along the way. Without better information this is all I can do for you at this time.

for some reason i had to "accept the move" in the chair assembly... pritty sure i didnt see that before? certainly didnt notice it before. But redoing it made me aware of this. After importing a body, it seems that every move operation merges with the import feature. so its not possible to edit the move. Is this new? seems to me... but hey, thanks for the help - it worked somehow.
