Arc wont copy in multiple selection

Anonymous

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble with the select, copy, and paste commands. Two small arcs on my 2d sketch disappear when I zoom out, they wont copy if I do a drag multiple selection, and the copy paste function is very eratic, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I'm in sketch edit mode and simply want to copy / paste within the same sketch. I have tried right click commands and CTRL / C & CTRL / V. I can copy / paste individual lines and arcs but multiple selections will not copy / paste. If your looking at the attached the main part is an inserted dxf file into an active sketch, I've drawn another part in the same sketch and thats the problem part. The reason I did this is so I can export the whole sketch as a dxf. Any ideas???   Thanks

I have seen this before and there seems to be a variable sensitivity of what's selected based on the size of an object relative to the size on screen. So zoom way out small curves are ignored zoom in and they are picked. Testing with your file if I zoom in so the sketch only just fits top to bottom on my screen a window select will select the arcs, zoom out a bit and they're missed. I think @jeff_strater explain how and why it's like this.

Thanks Mark for the reply,
I tried that and even though the arcs select the copy option is present but not the paste option. If the paste option does not show when selecting 'copy' (ie underneath it in the options list) it cannot be pasted at all. Sometimes the paste option appears but the arcs don't copy even though they are selected. The only way I can make a copy is to individually select the lines/arcs which is very tedious.

If paste doesn't show on your right click menu it sounds like you might not be in sketch edit mode but just in model mode and window selecting. Although you can copy from a sketch like this you need to be in a sketch, either editing a sketch or in a new one before the paste option show.

Here's a screencast showing the effect zoom level has. I moved the dimensions in so I could zoom in closer and still select all of the sketch, I was quite surprised the first copy\paste worked but as you can see zooming way out and parts are missed.

Thanks for that. The program is not behaving the same way on my computer. Please see the attached pics - one first shows copy/paste, the second copy only. The problem exists within sketch edit mode. The paste function is *usually* not present in sketch mode when multiple select is used. I mirrored the part and paste function showed up > exit edit sketch > back into edit sketch and paste has disappeared again. Even using 'undo' to get back to the mirror stage does not make paste reappear. If I tediously select the lines individually (57 of them - so far) and create a selection set the paste function reappears. Also multi select on the bigger parts is not picking up all objects causing an error message - again I have to select individually to create a selection set.

Any chance you can download Screencast and record what you're doing.

Yes, @Anonymousand @HughesTooling, this is, indeed a known problem.  The reasons have to do with some performance optimization that Fusion does to make selection as fast as possible.  Basically, the problem comes with objects that resolve to a single pixel.  If you are zoomed out far enough, those objects get filtered out.  Here is a screencast that shows the problem:

We are working on a fix, but the tricky part is to do so without sacrificing performance.  Until then, you will probably have to zoom in close enough to be able to see everything you want to select.

Done, I've uploaded a file called 'copy / paste error' (below). Out of 6-7 selections the paste function only appears about half the time. In other drawings it didn't appear at all. You will also notice the small arc on the top of the part is missing on the copied part below it. When trying to create a selection set by dragging to select I often get an error message saying not all items have been captured in the selection set so have to add them one by one. One thing I did that I'm not sure isn't bad is I deleted the lines I used as references for the arcs instead of turning them into construction lines, I deleted them so they didn't transfer to dxf files.

@Anonymous doesn't look like you attached all the files. Not sure what the Screencast.log file is.

Following what you do there I can get the same problem occasionally. Although that does cause a problem why are you selecting the sketch again before you try to paste, all you need to do is select and copy then unselect and right click with nothing selected and for me paste shows up every time.

If @jeff_strater wants to try this download @Anonymous file and mirror the sketch on the left, it only seem to play up after the mirror. I don't know if it the mirror causing the problem or just because there's twice as many elements.

Just made a screencast and noticed if you window select from top left to bottom right or bottom right to top left paste is missing, selecting from top right to bottom left works. One word of warning after the mirror paste takes a couple of minutes and it almost seems like Fusion crashes, be patient.

Mark.

I wasn't selecting again to try to paste but to illustrate that the paste function does not consistently appear. If it does not appear when copying it definitely will not appear when trying to paste. I've done another screen cast (attached) that illustrates the problem once I've actually selected copy - paste is then absent from the right click drop down.
