I am working with a hydraulic cylinder from MMC which is an step file. The displacement of the cylinder is 3" and I am working to create an animation of an assembly which includes this cylinder.  Does anyone know how to release the shaft to allow it to move along its axis by the 3" displacement?

Hello,

Without the dataset I can't tell you exactly what is happening, but I will take a crack on what I am guessing is happening.

When you insert a file from mcmaster-carr like this, it comes in as a single component with multiple bodies.  The transform command in the animation space moves only components so we need to convert the bodies to components.  You can do this by selecting the component that contains the bodies and RMB and choosing the option for Create Components from bodies.  I have attached a screencast that shows this behavior below.

Cheers,

You are very skilled in the way of Fusion Sensei, your movements on the screen are clear and precise. Soon as i can replay this many times i should be able to figure out how you did this - this is exactly what I needed. Thanks for the assist. Umm, if I could make a suggestion, for those of us ka (students), slowing down your screen cast will help us tremendously to understand the sequence sooner.  Once again, thanks for your time and effort, much appreciated
