Am not able to apply a joint to two components

I have used Fusion for about a year now.  Currently I am using my personal copy (I am on subscription) at the company i work for to CNC program mills to make prototypes.  I am trying to design an assembly but I can not put a joint (cylinderical) between two components.  Every time I try, I successfully define the joint only to have it fail when I exit the feature definition.   I get the message to the effect:  Model geometry lost, using cache to build feature.  Redefine feature references.  Which I do, trying every possible surface in both parts numerous times only to get the identical message showing a red cylinder near the model.

Unfortunately I can not, show the model but can show a partial that has the Joint relationship.

How do you make a proper Joint relationship?

The image is 400 x 280 pixels. Hard to see anything. Can you please provide full screen screen captures or better a screen cast or best can you share the project?

You probably need to fix the errors in your timeline.

I'd love to share but this is intellectual property  the part you see is the joint location and will work exactly as I need.   Please see the larger attached image

Does it still fail when you copy those two components to a new file?

Most of the people on the forum including myself provide the help here on a voluntary basis.

The 2 parts you show in your screen shots look very simple. As such I don't think it is too much to ask for that you simply re-model these 2 components in a separate file that re-produce the behavior you are seeing.

I am only showing the parts of the model that have the joint as this is a proprietary design and I can not show the whole model.  Yes I can remodel the design but that is a lot of work  and if the model is not recoverable, shouldn't Autodesk  want to understand why this happened.

I tried clearing the cache but this doesn't help.  I also tried rebuilding the failed features but that doesn't help either as this happens no matter which feature I try to use.  The suggestion to copy the model to another file might work but how do you copy the model to another file?

This works!!  thank you.  When I saved the component from inside the assembly to a new file and then inserted this model into the assembly I can now define Joints
