?ALL DATA GONE?

Hi,

I recently bought a refurbished MacBook Pro (Core i7, 16gb, 500gb SSD) to make my Fusion designing more portable. Because of this, I reformatted my Mac mini (Core i5, 16gb, 750gb Fusion Drive) and put it up for sale on eBay. However, because of my new job (CNC programmer / CAD&CAM designer at a very succesful machine shop), it was pulled off from eBay again because my employer had an interesting BYOD policy, and I managed to make him interested in Fusion 360, showing some of my designs on my MacBook and exporting some CAM tests to a Mazak Variaxis and Unisign Pro 5P.  The only thing he and the other managers were worried about was about the way Fusion is built around the cloud and losing important work so I told them I would bring in my Mac mini the next day, install everything from scratch and show off how easy my designs were imported and ready to work with. So the next day I brought the mini, installed Fusion 360, and TO MY ABSOLUTE HORROR the designs did not come back. The folders were still there, BUT NO DESIGNS, ALL WORK GONE, including some tests I made for work...

So obviously, the deal for using Fusion 360 and a Mac is off, and they will keep working with TopSolid, SolidWorks and CAMworks

Could someone please explain WHY this happened, making fun of me, my Mac and Fusion 360, and crushing my plans of using Fusion in a work environment???

The only positive thing here is that there were no important designs for work in Fusion yet, otherwise this would have probable cost me my new job as well... (everything is still accessible on the MacBook though)

To rule some things out:

- there was a decent (ethernet) connection available while setting everything up

- the Mac mini was left on during the rest of the day in the hope the files would come in anyway

- a few sign out's and sign in's had no effect

I included 2 screenshots, one from the Fusion running on the MacBook, the other running on the Mac mini.

Besides all this, I still love Fusion 360 and will keep using it for my hobby projects... still very sad I will never be able to use it at my job.

Hi there,

First, we're truly sorry for all this trouble. Not able to access your data can indeed be disturbing. Specially if its in front of an important audience.

I would like to try and figure out what could've gone wrong. May I request that you send me the diagnostic log files from your Mac Mini? You can access them from the Help menu --> Diagnostic Log files. Please post them on the forum, or send them directly to me: ahsan dot ali at autodesk dot com

Thanks for trying to root for Fusion 360 in your office.
Hopefully we can get this issue resolved soon.

Hi,

thanks for your quick response.

I managed to get the files back by uninstalling Fusion 360 and deleting all files. A reinstall and sign in and the files were back. Could not have done this at work as it might make Fusion look flaky. I am currently looking for something else to blame the problems on at work, to get another chance at showing Fusion....

Would you happen to know if 5-axis simultaneous milling will be possible in the near future? They asked me at work but I could not find a straight answer. This and a working version to show off might make me, my Mac and Fusion get a second chance...

Thanks!

Great!! I'm glad you were able to sort out the issue, even if it meant doing a reinstall. If you do see an issue again, please do report it on the forum, and attach the diagnostic files. I do hope you'll get a chance soon to (successfully) demo Fusion 360 again at work.

I'll try and get an answer to your question about the release schedule for "5-axis simultaneous milling".
Regards,
Ahsan

Thanks!

I will wait with the second try until there is news on the 5-axis machining, to make sure I have a strong case...

Hi,

next time you can also try to use "Clear user cache data" command from "the question mark menu" (in top rigth corner).

Or you can click on the Project's name in the Data panel - this will open A360 website with your project's data and you can use "Open in Fusion" command there for particular files.

Best regards,

Ludek
