Aligning plane of one component to the plane of another

When trying to join 2 components I'm running into a few problems:

The components do not have any sides to align so I drew a few planes to mark there centers.

Problem is, I cannot align the components because they just leave behind the planes (or the planes move).

How can I align (and join) these components?

I suspect the problem is that the planes are not owned by the components.  The solution is to "activate" the component before creating the planes:

Once the planes are owned by the component, they will all move together.

Thanks for the answer, sadly I do not see these buttons:

But the icon of the two components is different than your screenshot? Do I need to convert those components to bodies (or visa versa) and how do I do that?

I was able to add the planes to the original of the basePlate but because the motors are an assembly i could not add the planes.

Is there a workaround or should I just place them another way?

Ah, I see the problem.  It's not because those are assemblies, but because they are linked designs.  The "chain" icon indicates that these designs are inserted into the current design as a linked design:

Today, linked designs are read-only in the context of the top-level design.  That is why you do not see the "activate" button.  Activation is only used for adding things to a component, which is a modification, which is why it is blocked.  To put the planes into those designs, you will have to open those designs in a separate tab, and insert the planes into those components, then save the design, go back to the top level, and update to the latest version of those components.

Thanks!

It worked, but I found it very cumbersome. I needed to add the planes in the motor drawing, but in the assembly i cannot remove the planes.Capture.PNG

Anyways, now I need to make the cutout between the two, I can do that for body's but how do i do that for components?

Have you tried using the Combine command from the Model > Modify drop down menu?

Here's a quick screencast to show how it might work:

Hope that helps!

Thanks,
