Align 2 holes in assembly (Joint Command)

Please forgive me, this is probably one of the simpleist tasks, however my mind is still in Inventor Mode (Inventor User trying 360).

In the attached I have (2) parts.  I easily made a joint with the 2 LARGE cirlces (green and gray) and set an offset in another joint to have them a certain distance from each other.  But now I need to square up using the 2 holes.  I should say the gray part was dirived from the green part (inserted and lines projected).

In Inventor I would just simply use a constraint and align via an axis of each hole.

Can someone help?

Hi, it should be as easy as just creating an additional joint between the small holes in each of your components. It will let you know that you already have a joint between the two components, but that doesn't stop you from creating a second joint between those two. It will swing it around into position so everything lines up!

Good luck

I can think of three ways to do this.  They are in the Screencast in the following order:

1) Use a rigid constraint on the middle of the left edges of the parts.  This will not work, however, with all types of geometry.

2) Use a rigid constraint on the large hole and specify the angle.  I moved the top part 30º after creating it, so I knew what angle to specify.  This may not be the case for you.

3) Use a revolute constraint on the two holes.  This should work regardless of other geometry.  In the prompt you can also specify offset distance if you want some space between the parts.

Thanks to both!!! I appreciate the screencast.

Is anyone else having trouble using the align with two revolute joints? In my model, creating the second joint creates an error and won't allow it to be made.

Same error here.....one of my parts has no straight edges and the 2 revolute joints are my only option...but it errors everytime

Things to note:

1. The first Joint HAS to be a Revolute Joint, or the parts can't pivot around to allow the second Joint.

2. Regardless, two Joints attempting to relate two Components via the locations of two matching pairs of holes, or other geometry or sketch points, will fail if the distance between those corresponding locations isn't exactly the same on both Components and/or if there is any difference in the offset or angle of the locations selected between both Joints that you don't correct for in at least one of the Joint's settings.
