Add component to drawing, no template availible

Hi everyone, 

I'm experiencing something that I find kinda annoying, but I believe is a lacking feature. But I'd like to verify this. 

So I'm making a bunch of scripts and power automate solutions to increase production and I made one yesterday to add my designs to 2D drawings. 

I set up a template for the main veiw and one for the single component veiw. But here's the issue. When I add my design to a new set of drawings, I get the usual menu and I can create a new and use a template. 

But if I wish to add a component from the same design to that drawing on a new sheet, I can no longer use templates. 

Is this just me or is this developer food?

I'd love to be able to use templates when creating multi sheet drawings. Because that's all I create...

Hi,

With any Component you import into another Fusion file that is not already in that file, you should get a "link"

back to that file. Then if you modify the file you imported later you can update it in all the other files you have

imported it into. Any component you have imported is shown in the browser with a little link icon. If you Refresh

then it is supposed to update the design with the updated linked file at a later time.

If you break the link, then any changes made to the linked file are not updated anymore. You do this by clicking

the Break Link on the menu.

If you want to make changes to a linked component from within the new file, I don't believe that any changes

are linked backwards. This might be your issue here. You should be able to make changes to the original

component that should/will cross over to the new file. It should NOT work the other way.

If you break the link to the other file you will lose a lot of information but can then freely modify it.

How scripts and templates are handled between designs may very well be developer food. It will depend

specifically what they do and how you have written them.

not quite what I was asking

When a component inside of a design is added to a drawing, you can create a new complete drawing from a template. But you cannot add a component from the same design to a new sheet AND use a template. It can only be a blank sheet. 

Notice the differences in the screenshots provided. They are both opened using the same menu options. No script involved in that action since adding things to drawings isn't supported by script functions yet.

First create a new sheet in the drawing and assign a template to it.

Thank you for the workaround Gunther, 

I'm going to call it that as pre making sheets to go back to the design to add is quite annoying. 
I usually have project with around 50-100 sheets and I don't always know what template is going to be needed next depending on type of part, sheet metal flat pattern, folded model, 3D printed, Assembly veiw etc. 

But, I guess for now I'll add it to my workflow. I've recently made a desktop power automate to add everything to drawings so I can go grab something to drink while I wait for everything. Here's a sneak peek (my office isn't that dark, it's just the bright displays)
