Add a user parameter directly from the Sketch Dimension box.

Is this possible already?

Instead of adding a new user parameter from the Change parameters dialog.

Can I in the Sketch dimension box add a parameter not yet added?

Like Lenght=30 and it adds a parameter "Lenght" with the value of 30.

No, there are a couple or requests for it on the Ideastation. Do a search and vote them up

@alexandwirtz This has now been implemented. See second option on this help page. Seem to remember the new user parameter is not created as a favorite so you need to know the name if you want to use it in another parameter.

Edit. Just testing and the new parameter created this way does showup without the need to make it a favorite.

It's a Favorite, but not a User parameter.

Thanks for your input! I tested it and it does not work as expected, if I type Test=-2mm and hit enter, no Test shows up in my parameters. I'm on a mac with the latest update installed...

Any suggestions?

Works fine on Windows 10.  Can you do video showing it failing?

p.s. OBS studio works on Macs and Windows.

p.s.p.s. Try it with positive numbers.

I noticed it only seems to work when the dimension's created. If you try it with an existing dimension you can enter Size = 10 but the model parameter is not changed to Size. @Phil.E This seems like a bug, either you should get a warning or it should work.

@etfrench Good call on the minus numbers as you can't enter negative dimension.

Setting up a pattern will allow negative number though as shown below.

There is a regression bug in this workflow. Let me explain what is required to use this currently.

First, the sketch dimension is a model parameter. That doesn't change if you give it a user defined name. These are automatically made favorites.

And it's the same for mac/win.

But, there's a bug. The dimension doesn't currently retain the expression. Only the value.

Workaround:

  • Delete the sketch dimension where the parameter is created.
  • Replace the dimension and use the new user parameter name.

Modeling workaround:

  • It's not practical to delete extrusions or other features when this fails.
    • Only create user/favorite modeling parameters in the parameters dialog.
  • Logged as: FUS-120568
