A question to the group.

Is anyone else out there waiting for the other shoe to drop?

I'm an early adopter and I'm paying $300 a year. I haven't really gotten too far into Fusion 360 because I keep waiting for Autodesk to pull the rug out from under everybody. I have this fear that we are all beta testers and when Autodesk is happy all the good deals will go away and everyone will have to pay rates not many of us could afford. By the time this happens we all will be trapped because we have so much time and effort invested.

Am I just being a silly old man or does anyone else think this way?

Hi @dcrouch9 - I know you were looking for more general community feedback, but thought I'd chime in here.  While I can't make any guarantees about the overall Fusion offering ever changing or the product evolving, I can say our commitment to our early adopters, like you, remains strong.  As I'm sure you know, the tiers/offering has changed a bit over the recent years, and we've always done right by our early adopters, and I believe we'll continue to do the same if any changes come down the road.  Does that help at all?

I have an email from when Ultimate and the standard version were made equal for a while that says as early adopters we are guaranteed the ultimate version for $300.00 pa. as long as our contracts remain current. This does seem a bit too good to be true and I had my fingers burnt with a similar promise from Alibre but there's a lot more evidence of Autodesk's promise out there so going back on it would be quite difficult. Biggest worry would be for them to just close it down completely like they have with the 123 programs.

"In short, no change to our promise of $300 price guarantee for life or in terms of delivering benefits that are available to Fusion 360 Ultimate customers. Fusion 360 team sincerely appreciates the partnership and commitment from early adopters such as yourself."

Whoa that's an awesome deal! I wouldn't even think twice about going ultimate if I could get it for even 600/year.

To the OP, yes I have this concern. Not only are you at the mercy of a subscription...you also have all your files on the cloud. At some point I have to believe that will add cost.

Just to add to this,

I also have this concern - It does seem to good to be true.

As a hobbyist I have finally found something which is a full product on which I can invest time in and learn. I think it fills a massive hole by allowing a new user to gain confidence and progress to a reasonably high level without having to sell a kidney and half my liver to do so!!

Because of the licensing method that Autodesk is using, I am seriously considering starting a small business to make various small 'widgets', this wouldn't happen if I had to sell body parts to get started. What I am not prepared to do is pay thousands pounds for software and then get stung again for 'support' and updates THEN find I need another module - another thousand etc -  this does not instil any loyalty in me whatsoever!

Fusion is great. It is a full blown product that doesn't try and rip you off, other than functions, because of the response in the forums and the frequent updates I WANT to use with the addition to a nice knowledgeable community all helping each other - especially with the fast response times.

So Autodesk, in the future do you want to fall in to the trap of selling one license costing many thousands or selling thousands licenses for 10s/100s. The latter breeds loyalty and because of a low price becomes the normal go-to piece of software for small to medium engineering firms which everyone in uses (think MS Office in the early days). The end result is the same and you crush the competition.

If you're not greedy and specifically try to make money on the back of us, we will make you a fortune in the coming years.
