2d .SVG import of entire guitar

So I have a 2d svg file that contains all of the profiles and paths for a guitar.

The problem is that they all exist in the same sketch and they need to be on separate sketches and positioned in the correct x,y,z space. But I can't seem to select a curve off of the "master" svg and paste it on a layer.

I also found out the hard way that when I created all of my neck profiles and set visibility to just the plane of interest and exported them out of Illustrator...they came in with all of the paths.

What are some workflow ideas to get all of my curves set up from a 2d svg?

Thank you very much!

Ron

@Anonymous - I would be very leery of using SVG.  Depending on the program that generated them, and the settings on the export to SVG, I have seen simple designs that contain tens of thousands of tiny curves.  Fusion will not react well to that amount of data.  So, first, before anything else, try importing the SVG and seeing what kinds of curves result, and how the sketcher reacts to those curves.  If it comes in, extrude it, and see if there are lots of very tiny edges on the side faces - another sign that the SVG geometry is less than idea.  Second, the geometry types in SVG will not lend themselves well to editing in Fusion, if you need to do that (and you might...).  Editing in AI will mean starting all over again - there is no way to re-import and have downstream features update without a LOT of hassle.  So, if it were me, I would just get a PNG output from AI, put that down as a canvas, and use native Fusion curves such as spline, arc, etc, to trace over the design.  I know that feels like duplicate effort, but I think it will be worth it in the end.

If you want to share your SVG here, we can take a look at it.  To answer your specific question, you should be able to select any number of curves from the imported sketch, and copy/paste them to a different sketch to implement a kind of layer scheme.  I can't think of any reason why this would not be the case.  If you share your Fusion design here, we can look at that, as well.  A screencast would also be helpful.

Thank you...I was afraid that was going to be the case.

I have two sketch planes with sketches on them...I create two circles in Fusion but I cant copy them from one to the other.

my word...  you are more patient than I am.  I tried to import this into Fusion, and finally killed Fusion after 15 minutes or so.  This SVG seems to contain all kinds of drawings.  You might have some luck trying to edit this in AI to just extract the curves you want (for example, the body outline curves), and see if that is a smaller set of curves.  But, my guess is that this would result in a lot of small curves again.

Do you have a Fusion design that you have imported this into, and maybe simplified it a bit?  I can look at the copy/paste problem, but unfortunately, I don't have time to wait for that SVG to import...

Im doing what you said and brought in a .png of it…and I’m making all of the parts individually using native Fusion objects…turned out the shortcut was much slower than the daunting task of drawing everything…making sure it is 100% accurate.
